Israel Survey Research

Large Columbarium and C10 Scanner
The Beit Lehi, Israel project continues to involve a great deal of 3D laser scanning as we work our way through the multiple chambers and passageways that make up this ancient village.  This city was known as Beit (ruins of or house of) Lehi 300-400 BC and then around the time of Christ as the City of Zedek.

In 2010 Utah Valley University (UVU)-Engineering Graphics and Design Technology (EGDT) Department was asked to provide designs for a visitors center including all the infrastructure (water, sewer, power, roads, parking lots, etc) for this site.  Of course we had to start with a site survey and the project now has grown to include Archaeological grade scans of the ancient subterranean facilities found throughout the 50 acre site located 22 miles southwest of Jerusalem, Israel.

UVU decide to turn the project into a Student Study Abroad program and we took students and faculty to Israel for the first time in October 2010 and then again in May 2011.  We have collected a tremendous amount of data to this point and are now spending our time producing maps, drawings, and analysis work as well as model reconstruction of some portions of the facilities.  We plan to make another Study Abroad excursion in May 2012 depending on conditions.
